Okay, this was a change. After several days of downtime while we waited on the Federal Parliament to decide on what the hell it was going to do, we finally had something different to do. I don't know if it was a change for the better or not, but at least it was a change. We weren't dealing with an ignition event this time. This time it was a bunch of old ultrahumans who'd regained their powers, and quite a bit of their strength, flexibility, and endurance. And of course they had to immediately go into business for themselves stealing those funny looking cargo container boxes right off the docks. Where they were hiding them, I had no idea, but Shatterstrike and Nanaue were putting them in piles and then Skipper was teleporting them away somewhere. Chitin, Glider, Grit, and Thunderax were keeping us busy while the other three worked to steal as much as they could.

I looked above me and could see Witchwing banking hard to avoid a high powered laser blast from the power armored form of Chitin. “Stand still so I can hit you!” the alien screamed at her in frustration.

“Where's the fun in that?” she demanded as she twisted her own body in mid-flight and suddenly skipped sideways out of the blast area of the missile volley with which Chitin had followed up. Glancing over at the red hot shrapnel skittering across the sky, she swept her hand back toward the blue and black armored form and the same shrapnel with which he'd tried to kill her suddenly went spinning, flashing back toward the villain. It was everything he could do to dodge the pieces that threatened to penetrate his armor and shred the polymer of the insect-like wings on his back. “See, it's more fun this way!” Morgan screamed at him.

In the meantime, I was racing along an alleyway created by two long stacks of containers when, from the intersection up ahead, I saw Thunderax come charging into my path, the huge double bladed battleaxe for which he was named whirling high above his head. Icecat was dancing between down strokes of the ax to peel a piece of the plate armor he was wearing from his body. But, much to my blond companion's dismay, as soon as the plate was removed, it would dissolve in his hand and reform back in place.

Glancing quickly to the left, and then to the right, I realized that I had a choice of either plowing under him or trying to go around him. Quickly, I darted to the side and ripped a heavy duty lock off one of the containers, and then rocketed forward. The boom of my shattering the sound barrier was only matched by the sound of the lock crashing into his codpiece as I ducked between his legs and let go.

With the sound of thunder from his ax, the sonic boom of my breaking the sound barrier, and the crash of
